Got in the car again this week! woo hoo!

Thankfully I’m much less scared now, and actually enjoying the process a little but more. I felt ready this week to expand beyond just driving in an empty parking lot, and found a quiet neighbourhood out in North Stanch with some wider streets, road markings, stop signs etc. This was my first time hitting 40km/h!!! That felt super fast, so I’m excited to see what it’ll be like getting on the highway eventually. Not something I’m ready to tackle quite yet though haha.

I had my parter navigating using google maps since we were both familiar with the area. It was a very sprawling neighbourhood with lots of twists and turns, and a lot of dead ends to avoid. I was curious to see if we could pull up the route from this location services data and I’m very pleased to say we were able to!

This neighbourhood was a total hidden gem, wide streets, low speeds, and not to mention gorgeous houses. It was a little distracting trying to focus on the road when every street had a bigger mansion than the next. At one point I did get a little turned around, and had to pull into a very disgruntled NIMBY’s driveway to get back on my route. I don’t think they were exactly stoked to see my beat up old Subaru crawling at 20 km/h through their perfectly manicured cul de sac, but whatever haha.

My goal this week was to practice turn signals, stopping, and merging/turning into lanes. I think I did well! after about an hour looping around North Saanich I felt I had accomplished what I set out to do, and feel ready to graduate to the next step – I want to get out on West Saanich Road and practice getting more comfortable interacting with other cars/drivers.
