This week we discussed different technological advances in education and how to incorporate them into our teaching practices. We were introduced to the concept of SAMR (substitution, augmentation, modification, redefinition) as a model for technological integration. The model explores how move from just enhancing learning to transforming it through technology.
In our pod groups, we discusses an example of this philosophy and how could this tangibly be applied in a classroom. We discusses Substituting a whiteboard for a smart board. Augmentation would look like: incorporate different images to the board, change colours and fonts. Modification could be connect the smart board to student’s computers so they can type directly onto it, instead of going up to write on the board. This would redefines how you can allocate class time, focuses more on collaborative learning instead of focusing their time on note taking.
