Freedom of information and the context of FIPPA

We discussed the importance of informed consent when it comes to using images/likenesses and sharing them on the internet, in particular social media. It was emphasized that it is important for educators to take the opportunity to educate students about privacy.

As educators, we create content and are responsible for disseminating that content to our students. It is our job to follow copyright laws according to Bill C-11 which enables us as educators reasonable access to sharing and disseminating information for educational purposes. Siting our sources is paramount.

OER (open educational resources) are discoverable online and openly licensed, allowing us to retain, reuse, remix, revise and redistribute. Attributions are required for generally all information, photos, videos, or images that you use in your work. It is legally required, but it also thanks them and gives them credit for their work.
